K-pop is the short version for Korean pop. It’s a music genre. There can be groups and soloists. Some famous groups are BTS, Blackpink, Twice, Itzy and some famous soloists are Jessi, PSY, IU.

There are things that exist only in K-pop. For example, there are light sticks only in K-pop.
Twice's Lightstick
If you’re wondering what that is, it's something like a magic wand that lights up and it has the logo of the singer/singers. Another thing that’s only in K-pop is the fandom name. This is the nickname that idols give to their fans. For example, Blackpink’s fandom name is Blink, BTS’s one is Army, and Twice’s one is Once.
Now let’s talk about K-pop idols. Their age depends on when the group debuted, but the average age is around 25 years old. Of course, there are exceptions. Some idols can be very young.

There’s a possibility they still go to school! But now where are they from? If you think all idols are from Korea, you’re wrong! Actually, they can be from every country in the world, but the most common nationalities are Korean, Japanese and Chinese. And because some idols are Japanese, some of their songs can be in Japanese as well.
But they can’t do everything on their own - and that’s where entertainment companies come. These are companies that help the groups/soloists produce their music. The big four are YG, JYP, Big Hit and SM. Other famous entertainment ones are Cube, Starship and WM.
